It could also be useful for bargaining. I would imagine that this varies considerably for HGs, walk-ups, sauna girls, and so on. I'm curious what percentage of payment actually goes to HGs and walk-ups, versus papasan and whatever triad is behind the scenes. Is it the sob story that media usually portrays or is it actually a decent living for these girls?
