it depends how u travel and what u do. u can stay at hotels in Phnom Penh where the nightly room rate is equal to avg per capita ANNUAL income. u can stay in hovels in Thailand (esp upcountry) and eat at streetstalls and nightmarkets. i remember checking my email once in BKK when some young lad sat next to me and Skyped his mom. "it's so CHEAP here, DVDs are only one pound!" bellowed the whelp, apparently having never encountered pirated products before. i had a hard time keeping a straight face with him shouting things: "this place is the BEST! went to the Full Moon Party and there's TEN THOUSAND people! but, i cut my foot really bad on the broken glass, but Andy cut his foot WORSE, cuz they break bottles everywhere, but i already hurt my other foot so for awhile, I HAD NO FEET (that isn't paraphrased, he really said that)...but, this is the best place EVER. it's so cheap!"

a lot of unis in TL teach in English, graduates from say, Chulalongkorn U in BKK (considered TL's #1) generally achieve fluency, but critical thinking there still isn't much better than upcountry. if, as yr friend says, he's been having some frolicksome adventures at the U, great. head up there if it suits. but YMMV.

the tourist areas aside, TL is still a conservative, insular culture. Thai and its dialects are the lingua franca, although they've placed emphasis on English in recent decades, if it's rote-repetition from a native-Thai-speaking instructor, don't expect to saunter in and dialogue those INSANELY cute Thai uni gals. if they're looking for a farang, u better be young/handsome/rich or at-least-presentable and REALLY rich. there are expat-ghettos all over TL now, even Chiang Rai, but while you'll be a novelty, don't expect uni gals to be diving under the table to blow you.

if yr keen on dating non-working TGs, Bangkok is the place and the importance of learning correct Thai (NOT the Isaan dialect most bargirls speak) can't be overemphasized. learn Thai language and culture, seriously. otherwise, stick with the pros/semi-pros or check in at tagged.com, it's a great place for sportfuckin'. if u wanna do some spectating, hang around Chula or ABAC unis at lunchtime (if you want to try chatting them up, dress reasonably well, speak softly, say that you're studying Thai and would like to practice...but forget it with Chula gals, try Ramkhamhaeng!), or sample the eye-candy in the Silom area as they get off work (17:00-17:30). it ain't only the uni gals who wear uniforms....

Have you complained to the person collecting the 150 ?  After paying, the next time try going with a Caucasian guy. I wonder what will the same person, who collected your money do ? Have you talked with management about why is this their procedure ?  Would it help if you said you are not a local but an overseas Asian foreigner ?

In the USA / Canada the place can be sued for racial discrimination.

Any Wanchai bar that has a lot of wgs tend to charge the Asians at the door. I heard they do this because they feel most Asian visitors are too cheap to purchase drink(s) (though beer is so cheap there at 3 am) or the Asians won't pay for many special priced lady's drinks. But if you are regular (who has proven to have purchased many drinks or taken girls out), it does not matter if you are Asian or not, you will get in FOC.

Complaining to management won't help you. The door guys don't know you. You are a nobody to them until you find someone to take you in for free. Doesn't matter if you are an overseas Asian because you can still be a cheap bastard.

So the next best thing would be for you to do is ask a gweilo to take you in and buy a drink in appreciation.   Or go somewhere else.

The place is okay for hanging out and checking out some tits and ass.

The quality of the girls have gone down a bit over the years and the prices have gone up, should be the other way around imo.

Yeah if I go with a gweilo they usually don't charge me, and I don't believe they charge locals as well.  I was probably the only foreign asian there and as I sat by the bar, I noticed NOBODY used one of the drink tickets I got at the door.  

The management probably doesn't give a crap, they will just come up with some sort of b.s. excuse to make up for their discrimination.  

I mentioned to the door guy " i wasn't charged last time " and his response was " you got lucky. " i was like whatever.  


Hopefully I will have some luck at 37d tomorrow, hope the girl I had last time is working.  The hg's look nice, but since I don't do FS anymore, its not a very attractive offer, where as at 37d I can get a cbj and at least 2 pops.

Honestly, yes, for the most part, I only do CBJ's and HJ's as of lately.  Its why I often go get " oil " massages in SH =).

There is an "assumption" that Asian Bros wont drink much and Indian Bros will discourage WGs to go to the bar. The "assumption" is also that western Bros are the big drinkers, and if you want lots of big drinkers, fill your bar with lost of WGs and no "tyre kickers". It is a terrible generalisation because I have seen Foreigners go to Neptune II and drink nothing, I have also see Foreigners treat girls poorly and make them feel uncomfortable. However, unfortunately this generalisation does exist in some Wan Chai bars. As has been suggested already, only simple answer is to find a foreigner to talk in with.
