Thought I'd C+P a post I made on another thread - as something I'd want you guys to think about.
Yes, prostitution per se is quite legal in Hong Kong - but it is a totally different matter in the PRC. Anyway, Hope you guys find this informative/herewith what I wrote:
Reminder for a lot of us on this board, who may be under the very mistaken notion that just because we are NOT PRC citizens, that somehow we can be complacent about PRC laws in regards to prostitution...which is very much still an illegal activity in China.
And I've heard too many times this nonsense about - "Oh, LE's won't bother us, too much trouble processing paperwork having to deal with foreigners." Pure bull - as foreigners are so easy to shake down in China instead; forget about doing ANY paperwork - just pure shakedown! And if it DOES get to the point that they cannot shake down the foreigner - how easy is it to get good publicity - probably International publicity - about the evil foreigner raising havoc and corrupting China's pure maidens!
The thing about Chinese laws that is MOST disturbing to me is that it DOES get applied unevenly to suit whatever it is that they want to apply it to. And anytime that somebody or another want to make some money - foreigners are instead easy targets IMHO.
Think about it guys!
